5. Permissions Explained

HideGPT requests the following permissions, which are used exclusively for the extension's core functionality:

Storage Permission

Why we need it: To save your preferences (Docs Mode state, response style, document title) locally on your device so they persist between browser sessions.

What we do with it: Store settings in Chrome's local storage. This data never leaves your device.

ActiveTab Permission

Why we need it: To detect when you're on chatgpt.com or chat.openai.com so the extension knows when to activate.

What we do with it: Check the current tab URL to enable/disable the extension appropriately.

Host Permissions (chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com)

Why we need it: To modify the ChatGPT interface and apply the Google Docs styling.

What we do with it: Inject CSS styles and JavaScript to transform the visual interface. All processing happens locally in your browser.

6. Third-Party Services

HideGPT does not use any third-party services, analytics tools, or external APIs. Your usage of the extension is completely private.

ChatGPT Integration

HideGPT modifies the visual appearance of ChatGPT but does not:

Intercept or modify your ChatGPT conversations
Send any data to our servers
Change how ChatGPT processes your messages

Your interactions with ChatGPT remain subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

7. Data Security

Since HideGPT does not collect or transmit any data, there is no data to secure on external servers. All settings are stored locally using Chrome's secure storage APIs.
